This is for guests coming to Aurora Village for the first time! Discount applies for guests returning to Aurora Village for additional nights. (See Additional Night Aurora Viewing Tour.)
Our bus will transport you from downtown to Aurora Village less than half an hour away. Many teepees stand tall on the frozen lakefront glowing in the dark. It itself is a magical site to behold, and serve as a magnificent backdrop for aurora photos. Aurora Village is simply a world of its own for its facility and services provided. We have guides in English, Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin and Cantonese to welcome you in the language you feel comfortable.
Upon arrival at Aurora Village our guide will lead you to one of the teepee which serve as the base for the evening. After a brief orientation, you can walk around our spacious property to find your perfect spot, whether it’s on the frozen lake or the hills having panorama view of the nearby environs. Though staying around the teepees is most popular with many guests, we recommend you explore if you are looking for more secluded viewing. Just ask the guide for assistance. Portable picnic chairs are available throughout the site for your use,
Come back to your teepee to warm up with hot beverage when you start to ‘freeze’ in minus 20, 30 degrees temperature in winter. Or, you can visit our Gift Shop, or drop in at Dining Hall for a midnight snack and drinks (extra cost). Oh, and don’t worry! We do have very warm, spacious, and well lit washrooms for your comfort! As options, we have tripod rentals, photo service of you with aurora, use of outdoor heated seats for viewing comfort, aurora extension to stay 90 minutes after the regular tour return, etc. Just ask your guide!
In Yellowknife, even during the cloudy days the clouds move constantly. Even on the nights of heavy clouds and snow the skies can open up to billion stars to set the stage for aurora. We are situated a more flat terrain with no mountains nearby. So, there is no need to ‘chase’ for aurora, aurora always comes to us at Aurora Village! Also, often misunderstood is that you can only see aurora at midnight. Yellowknife is unique consistently under the aurora oval that it is not rare to see aurora once it gets dark, and continue on and off throughout the night.
